The Albany State Capitol is just stunningly beautiful inside and these pictures will not do it justice.
It took over 32 years to construct and today it sits incomplete thanks to Theodore Roosevelt. During his Governorship he took a tour of the building and announced the project DONE! In that moment workers were dismissed. All the marble and stone masonry is hand carved and the artisans were given free rein to carve and design at their whims and will.
Inside the Senate Chamber, which had a different designer/architect than the House Chamber
The Senate has 23K gold sheets on the walls
Solid oak ceilings with marble columns
An unfinished piece. I don't know if it shows well but that little round piece is not completely carved. There are dozens of these examples throughout the Senate Chamber
Staircases of carved stone and marble
Heading to the House Chamber
The Lower Chamber had a different architect, one less opulent. No Gold sheets, less marble.
The People's Chamber is a little more simple. Lots of trees died to put those bills on the desks.
The Governor's War Room has wonderful ceiling paintings depicting the various wars and battles of New York's history.
Lady Liberty in the center of the ceiling
Manly Man Theodore Roosevelt
