Historic Churches of Philadelphia #1

Mother Bethel A.M.E Church - 1792

Arch Street Quaker Meeting House is built in 1804 and still active today. It's congregation is still pacifist and currently displaying a "Give Peace a Chance" quilt and painting project. This group of Quakers originally separated the sexes as shown with two different entrance doors. There was a worship hall for both men and women. Today they no longer follow this practice.

Incredibly powerful paintings all related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This one took my breath away with its profundity and symbolism.

1st Quaker Meeting House

William Penn, the first proprietor of Pennsylvania, received permission from the King of England to begin Penn's Colony which began as a safe have for the Quaker religion. This is considered the 1st Quaker Meeting House of Philadelphia, began around 1700.

A very friendly Quaker who reported that his bowels were in good health, when I asked him how he was doing.

The accoutrements of the day.
