James K Polk's Birthplace - Pineville, NC

James Knox Polk, 11th President, was born on this land, covering 150 acres,  owned by his father.  James' grandfather fought in the Revolution and his mother is said to have descended from the Presbyterian Reformer John Knox.  James, the oldest of ten, spent much of his childhood here before the family moved to Tennessee to join his paternal grandfather.  While this is not the original log cabins they are replicas of the homes of the time period.

The relocated Polk Family Cemetery.  The original location of the cemetery was in the way of a highway and construction, so the family members, including James K's grandmother, were relocated here.
