Fort Fisher Confederate Fort North Carolina

Fort Fisher is located in Wilmington and protected the vital trading route for goods.  The Union forces captured the fort in 1865.  

City Point - Grant's HQ

During the Civil War, City Point, and this house, became the headquarters for General Grant.  The surrounding area acted as a supply depot and hospital for the Union army.

I would love to say that my pictures are stunning and capture the beauty of these towering and ancient redwoods, but that would be a big fat lie.  We went on a cold rainy day, therefore, the colors are dim.  However, the dreary weather lent itself to low attendance and foot traffic, which was perfect.  Few people means that we were able to hear the sounds of nature and enjoy the quietude.  

The best way to capture the extreme heights of these trees is to put your camera on self mode, get close to the ground and aim your camera up.
