Fort Pulaski - Savannah, Georgia

Fort Pulaski

This fort is also outside of Savannah and construction begain in 1829.  Robert E.  Lee spent time here and directed some of the building and construction.  It has some unusual characterisitics about it, notably a system of underground tunnels known as the Demilune with very narrow passages one has to turn sideways for.  It is much larger than Fort Jackson also.  Fort Pulaski took heavy artillery during the Civil War and endured tremendous damage, shown in this pictures.
