John Marshall House

John Marshall House
Richmond, VA

John Marshall is arguably the most influential, longest serving,  Supreme Court Justice  and one of my favorites. Born in 1755 he is cousin and kin to Thomas Jefferson, served in the American Revolution with General Washington and wrote a multi volume biography of Washington. His authorship of many early Supreme Court cases established, if not credentialed, the legitimacy of the Constitution and its supremacy in the new United States of America.

John Marshall lived in Richmond, built his home in 1790 and lived here until is passing in 1835.  It is remarkable that much of the home has survived the Civil War and modern era. Although much of the furnishings are gone much of the interior is as it was when Marshall lived there and is currently preserved by Preservation Virginia.

You can see how modern Richmond has grown around the house.  It is located in the central downtown district.
