St. Philip's Episcopal Church

This church was established in 1670 but this structure was completed in 1724, destrd by fire in 1835. This building was completed in 1838. During the Civil War, its bells were convered into cannons. On July 4, 1976 the new bells were put in place. The church yard has graves of John C. Calhoun: Secretary of War and Vice President; Also Edward Rutledge - Signer of the Declaration of Independence; Charles Pinckney - Signer of the U.S. Constitution.

These slate type graves date to the late 1680-1730's and are very common in New England
