USS OLYMPIA - Spanish American War

USS Olympia

This ship was in the Spanish American War and World War I.  Theodore Roosevelt also used this ship to sail around the world on a peace mission he dubbed The Great White Fleet.  All ships up until that point (1890's) had been made of wood exterior and Roosevelt commissioned the making of a fleet made of steel. 

 

 The interior was beautifully made of hard woods.  Any sailor would have appreciated being on this ship.

Morristown National Park--American Revolution

This is where General Washington and his troops encamped during the winter months.  The pictures did not load on to the page in the order that I wanted them and I've had difficulty arranging them after they loaded.  However, the Park is situated in to several parts.  Jockey Hollow is where the troops built their log cabins for the winter.  Wick Farm is where some of the officers encamped and then the larger house is where the General and Mrs stayed along with several of their top officers and Aide de Camps like Alexander Hamilton.

 Inside the house.  None of the pieces are original to Washington's stay.  And if I remember, I think we were told these were replica's. 

 These furnishings represent how it probably looked during Washington's stay.  There were over 100 people here in the house at one time.  No documentation exists to state which room the General and his Lady resided in though

 The structure of the house is still original. If only the walls and beams could talk
